Daring redundancy… I must say this is the second best time of the day… in my office downstairs, totally dark except for the light of the computer screen, quiet except for the noise of the small electric heater blowing on my bare feet…I’m on cup two of the coffee always waiting for me in the timed coffee maker…alone with my thoughts…The Mrs and Lily still asleep….. my brain is relaxed and functioning at a snails pace..vastly different when I come home to enjoy my favorite part of the day….
Usually, a bit frazzled between 5:00 and 6:00 pm…knowing I still have a chore or two to do…. like give the ever thrilled to see me, Ms. Lily her treat…then take her for a walk..and wait while she paces back and forth seven or eight times in one little spot until she finds exactly where she want so take her doggy poop…I always pick it up…and throw it into the trash (after all, I am on the Homeowners Association Board)…then remove my work uniform the ever present necktie, jacket and pressed shirt..get on my sweats and join the Mrs for a glass of wine and relaxing chat and decompress….That’s my favorite time of day…and the time I always count my blessings.. the aforementioned duo on the top of my list…my sons, my job, the sweetest people on the planet at the office…sometimes misguided, sometimes unhappy…but always loyal and always trying their best to do the right thing….and all the other people that make up the population of my existence.
While bustling, yesterday was a pretty good day. “Scared of me Gal” wrote her first Life Insurance policy…. (this is one of Idea’ Guys greatest ideas…getting the support staff producing more new business)….I sat with her and the client and we walked through the life application…. three sections… the application, the medical section and the releases and payment paperwork… a bit daunting at first..but I was proud of her…. hoping to perpetuate this wonderful accomplishment we lauded much deserved praise on “Scared”…. and she dutifully blushed and looked down as though to say “awwww it was nuttin”….but it was…it was a start..
“Idea Guy” called yesterday… he made an appointment for me with an ex client… we’ll see what develops from that….I interviewed a job candidate yesterday…and actually had some fun with the staff….till I asked “New Guy”.. who is much younger and stronger than me, if he would be kind enough to move a little red table that was in my old office downstairs, upstairs to my new office….it was gone…. I searched all the workstations but to no avail… so I left the ladies downstairs a little email that Detectives would be at the office at 11:00 am today to interview them….I’m reasonably confident the table will appear out of nowhere by 8:30….but time will tell.
I have to be in Minneapolis at 11:00 for my Idea Guy set appointment..then back to the office for an afternoon appointment that for the life of me I can’t remember what for….and I think I’m going to call some prospects this afternoon….no… I know I’m going to call some prospects this afternoon and see if I can’t scare up some new bus…Dawn is here…time for a shower and shave….
